Entry to advanced: A machinist’s career growth via Acu-Rite Solutions

Education and training are essential and unending in the world of manufacturing. Whether just beginning training or being a seasoned machinist, it’s crucial to keep skills up-to-date and to adapt to advancing manufacturing technologies. With the right training and tools, manufacturers can unlock the ability to run more advanced machines and achieve greater success in their field. The Acu-Rite Solutions product catalog allows learners to grow into and layer on more advanced features as they master the basics. Richard Brown, Machine Tool Instructor at Horry-Georgetown Technical College, shared his perspective on progressive product training at the college: “The program actually takes you from the foundational skills all the way through completion of programming CNC” … “Here we feel like you need the foundational skills so that if something goes wrong with the program, you know how to adjust it. Acu-Rite Solutions is good to teach on because it gives the student, right in their face, what’s happening as they’re moving the dials. Once they get that, you no longer see them watching the dials. You see them just watching the screen and they know exactly where it’s at when they’re cutting the parts.” You can support a machinist’s career path, from entry-level to advanced, by pairing the trainee with various products in the Acu-Rite Solutions catalog. Let’s step through the sample progressive product training below. Entry-Level: Manual Input Systems One of the first steps in manufacturing education is gaining experience with manual machine tools. This entry-level exposure allows individuals to learn the fundamentals of machining, including tool selection, work holding, and toolpath creation. For trainees newer to manufacturing, Acu-Rite Solutions offers a range of entry-level manual input systems that are ideal for shop classes, production environments, and small shops. The DRO100, DRO203, DRO300, and droPWR are digital readout systems that allow users to quickly and accurately measure workpiece dimensions. The TURNPWR and MILLPWRG2 systems are CNC retrofit packages that can be added to existing manual machine tools to enable CNC capabilities. By mastering these manual input systems first, trainees will establish a foundational understanding of basic machine functions. [...]

“The Q”– Meet Acu-Rite Solutions new metrology DRO

SCHAUMBURG, IL (August 2022) – The new metrology-focused digital readout by Acu-Rite Solutions will be introduced in the HEIDENHAIN booth next month at IMTS in Chicago (September 12-17). The new Acu-Rite Solutions-brand DRO203Q known as “the Q” utilizes the power of the established Acu-Rite Solutions DRO203 hardware to integrate geometric metrology functions from the past iconic QUADRA-CHEK series. Users of optical comparators and measuring microscopes and more will find this of particular interest as it meets the need for basic 2-D metrology functions. The Q functions as an entry-level readout, providing the user with geometric feature construction, basic part view detail and data output via USB-C connection. This enables users to quickly gather the needed points, construct desired features, and export them easily over a modern interface. The Acu-Rite Solutions DRO203Q is plug-and-play, walking the user through initial set up parameters and display options on first power-up. Acu-Rite Solutions is a brand of HEIDENHAIN consisting of digital readouts, linear scales and controls. Acu-Rite Solutions DROs and controls are manufactured in the U.S. High-resolution image available here. Acu-Rite Solutions manufacturing successfully moves to Illinois

SCHAUMBURG, IL (April 2019) – The manufacturing facilities of Acu-Rite Solutions products have successfully moved from its long-time base in Jamestown, NY, to larger facilities at the North American headquarters of parent-company HEIDENHAIN in Schaumburg, IL. This centralized location now offers quicker access to the industrial manufacturing resources in the Chicago area, while keeping the “Made in America” tradition alive. It is also proving to be more effective for Acu-Rite Solutions shipping and receiving, both domestically and internationally.“This forward-thinking move was made to strengthen the already leading brand of Acu-Rite Solutions,” said John Parker, HEIDENHAIN’s Machine Tool Business Development Manager. “The production of the Acu-Rite Solutions products is now going strong in Illinois, at the same time we continue to invest in the Acu-Rite Solutions R&D department that remains in Jamestown, NY.”Keeping customer needs in mind first, Acu-Rite Solutions products currently on the Illinois manufacturing lines include all the digital readouts (models DRO10X, DRO203, DRO30X), and DRO accessories such as IB2X and IOB610, all the encoder bracket kits such as those for SENC 150, SENC 50 as well as the MILLPWRG2 control and associated components.Lines are fully staffed with technicians overseen by managers such as Test Engineering, Quality and Operations. “It is important that we maintain the reliability and integrity of all the Acu-Rite Solutions products, as well as continue to focus on the ease of use of all our end products that our customers have come to expect,” said Parker.Service and support of the Acu-Rite Solutions products has also been an important focus during this manufacturing operations transition. Dedicated trained staff are now in place in Schaumburg to provide Acu-Rite Solutions technical support, as well as field service.Acu-Rite Solutions DRO and Encoder Support: techsupportHC@heidenhain.comMILLPWRG2 Programming and Application Support: millpwrservice@heidenhain.comThe established Acu-Rite Solutions website continues to be the same helpful go-to source for both distributors and customers alike. Also, Acu-Rite Solutions trade show presence is continued, and for 2019, Acu-Rite Solutions exhibits are planned for TECMA, EASTEC, CMTS, SOUTHTEC and PRI.“This Acu-Rite Solutions manufacturing transition has been done for all the right reasons,” said Parker. “With these changes and investments, we expect the [...]

NEW performance-driven digital readout line

SCHAUMBURG, IL (March 2018) – HEIDENHAIN’s Acu-Rite Solutions brand is again leading the way in new digital readout (DRO) products for the machine tool marketplace. Available now, a new line of three innovative DROs with exciting new software features and robust hardware is making a difference for milling, turning, grinding and boring applications, resulting in the most complete line in the industry. Acu-Rite Solutions models DRO100/203/300 all support many new innovative software features, including an “Installation Guide” that appears at first-time power up that all DRO users will appreciate. Another exciting new feature is “Dynamic Zoom”, where once activated, the display values for the axis currently being moved are maximally enlarged. The user can immediately see which axis is currently in motion and can also easily read the numerical value from a greater distance. Other new software features common to all include: File management Users can save and/or load firmware, configuration files, graphic files and instruction manuals. User management In the DRO203/300, a simple user management system has been introduced in order to make it easier for multiple users to operate the unit. Up to nine users can store their personal settings with a user number and then call them at will. It is not necessary to enter a password. The machine setter can reset all the users. Day and night switchover The main screen can be switched to a brighter or a darker background depending on the lighting conditions at the machine. Highlighted display As a simple means of graphically highlighting the axis currently in motion, the display value of the axes not being moved can be dimmed. On the hardware side, a 7-inch TFT color display that significantly optimizes the readability (brightness, color, resolution, and the viewing angle) of the information displayed is now being used. And each readout is housed with a robust powder-coated, die-cast aluminum housing. The DRO100 uses a membrane keyboard. The mid-range DRO203 and high-end DRO300 provide a rubber keypad. Encoders with a TTL interface (differential and single-ended) can be connected via a 9-pin D-sub connector. The power supply is built-in. All the new [...]
